We have a pretty big compost set up that we insulate, and it does make progress over the winter. The compost tumbler that I made for the Urban Homesteaders movie is not as effective for winter compost.

Generally you need a pile at least 3'x3'x3' to get enough heat generated to combat the winter weather. Even then, you have to insulate that. We use straw bales around our pile, and we put several layers of empty coffee sacks on top of the pile. Feel free to call any time and swing by to see our operation.

I just want to make sure that we are moving forward on our project... I am supposed to be getting the contact info for the state land and looking into getting a Wedge lot through SWPC. Have you been able to find any strawbale drawings I can show the code guys? Maybe a 1000sf cottage or something similar?
