As you may assume, their are many sustainably-minded groups in and around Rochester with similar goals and happenings. In an effort to not reinvent the wheel or step on others toes we would like to combine forces with other groups out there to make meetings more attendable, more information presented by more presenters. Also, if you have a green product or service that you may be selling please post as well as we plan to incorporate a green products showroom into our Urban Center for Sustainable Development (coming soon!) Keep this thread goin!
Great idea, I haven't paid alot of attention the past few months but we really need to accelerate the qwest to sustainability. I fear we will all be wishing we had done more sooner a year from now.
What promotions/advertisements are being done to get the word out?
I have posted this group on my blog, but that may not be doing much for attracting local interest.
Right now I am seeing 44 members here and 147 members in the Green Building Group.
Out of possibly a half million people in the Rochester and surrounding area that is not a lot.
I am sure there are more environmentally conscious people here.
Either that or we are the only ones willing to admit to being green.
I think the exact same thing, believe me. We have to be getting the word out to more people. My marketing efforts will be shifting this year to tap into more of the public population. I have some bigger venues to use, the news stations behind me and the most important thing is having an event worthy/interesting and cheap enough for people to want to come. Hands-on work shops, green collar jobs & training and green product expo's & demonstrations will be key in these efforts. I am plan on having at least 3-4 Cordwood workshops in 09, as well as, strawbale construction projects on new and existing buildings. The triple bottom line conference will be a great event to network and get key people to back what we may come up with. If anyone out there has opionions on what events/activities they would be interesting in going to or a green product to promote/demonstrate, post it. The grants and public support is out there we just have to go get it.
I sent invites to all of my 600 contacts in my network. I look forward to working with you to help some of the colleges in the state of New York become more sustainable
Membership here just jumped from 44 to 57 people. This is a great thing!
Keep 'em coming. I know there are more people out there that are working to reduce, re-use and recycle.
Peter - Where is the Meet Up on Jan 22? and at what time?
2009 is the year!
Yeah, we have been attending more meetings, meeting more people and other people have been spreading the word, this is hopefully just the begining. The meetup is at the Tap & Mallet on Gregory St in between Clinton & South Ave. The meeting starts at 6pm. You can always see where and when our meetups are on Meetup.com/rochestergreenliving, look forward to meeting you.
What is the status here?
Any more interests?
What is the traffic like on this site?
Are there any low - to - no cost events we can put together?
How about some How-To events?
There are sooo many meetings coming up this year and I'm glad you asked about the free ones cause these days most every event seems to be $100-400 a session. I am all for green business to grow but I would rather have the information readily available to the community who wants to learn & utilize sustainable teachings. I was recently contacted by Bleu Cease from RochesterContemporary.org has been involved with the organization P.L.A.N.T. http://plantrochester.org and is currently in the mist offering a wide range of sustainable topics/presentations/discussions. Most of of them are free to my knowledge and I will be hosting a talk/demostration on cordwood construction on Sunday, May 3rd @ 1pm. The listed website links will provide all the info you need about these events, I hope people take advantage of the fantastic culture, art, vision and efforts the people of this city are putting forth.
