Rochester Green Living

Grass roots activists committed to a sustainable Rochester

March 6, 2009

I have reduced my carbon footprint by downsizing my home in moving from a suburb to the city.

I have reduced my non-work related driving by walking to the grocery store, post office, library, barber shop, gym, City Park, and County Zoo.

I am using some compact fluorescent lamps and using my microwave mostly instead of my electric range or oven.

I have turned down my thermostat. I have replaced some old windows with double-insulated windows.

I use my blue (green) box to recycle paper, glass, plastic, and metal.

You can calculate your carbon footprint by selecting Carbon Calculator.

I use dishes and silverware instead of the disposable whenever possible...car pool, use a pellet stove for heating, recycle as much as I can, support my local farmer's market and promote local, environmentally responsible businesses.....but I can do much more and working to hit my goals this year of green building workshops, event presentations, working with local code & building officials to improve our local building standards. Who's comin with me!

We have increased our recycling. We now have a worm composter.
Thereby reducing our landfill garbage.
I have been using re-usable shopping bags.
We recover rainwater to water my plants.
Since last year we purchase wind power from RGE.

I regularly educate people on going green via my web sites and daily interactions.

I want to do the worm composter too...Lindsay did it as well and I think that will be a good weekend project. Your site is great...we will be posting a ton more contacts including yours to our new site. Keep up the great work and hope to see you next week at the meetup!
